If you have a small laundry room, you might feel like a quality washer and dryer is out of reach.

The good news?

You don’t need a huge space to have a great washer and dryer. Instead of going out, you can go up!

Think outside the typical washer and dryer duo, and look into a stackable.

At West Coast Appliance and Furniture we have many options, but we especially like the GE Unitized Spacemaker.

You don’t have to skimp on quality if you have a small laundry space. A stackable washer and dryer fits in perfectly and makes your chores much easier.

With so many things on your to-do list, don’t worry about the laundry anymore. Let our team help you find a quality, affordable stackable washer and dryer.

It's Time For A New Washer & Dryer

Everyone has a favorite, or least favorite, house chore.

For many, doing the laundry falls into the category of “least favorite.”

You usually start this chore off with lots of gusto — gathering up the dirty clothes, tossing them into the washing machine and prepping the next load.

But after a couple of hours the adrenaline rush wears off. The clean clothes end up unfolded in the laundry basket or piled on the bed.

Even though laundry isn’t on the top of your favorite chores list, sometimes having the right equipment makes a tough task easier.

A new washer and dryer are a big investment, especially in space. If you don’t have a lot of room, you might think a new appliance is out of the question. Fortunately, it’s not!

With a stacked washer and dryer from GE, you can have quality equipment that doesn’t take up a lot of room in your house or apartment. This stackable has all the qualities you want in a washer and dryer, including 11 wash programs, auto-load sensing with four water levels, four dry programs and an up-front lint filter.

While laundry isn’t fun, we hope it can be a little easier when you have the right washer and dryer by your side.

Summer Chores And Family Fun

School is out and your kids are bored.

You don’t want them inside all day watching TV or playing video games. But sometimes it’s too hot to play outside. You’ve gone on family hikes, trips to the museum, and biked around the neighborhood after dinner.

But the kids are still restless, and school is weeks away.

What should you do?

Laundry!

Everyone in the house contributes to the dirty laundry — towels, clothes, sheets and bathmats. Now is the time to recruit your kids to help with the laundry. It’ll keep them busy, teach new skills and lighten your workload.

Kids should also learn to do the laundry because:

1)     When your kids move out someday, whether to college or their own place, they’ll need to understand how to wash and dry their clothes.

2)     It teaches responsibility and strengthens family bonds when everyone works together to complete a task.

3)     Kids can help with the laundry at any age by breaking it down into smaller tasks.
Teach toddlers how to put their dirty clothes in a laundry basket, and have your older kids fold, sort and put their clean clothes away.

Helping with the laundry is a great way for  your kids to beat summertime boredom. And you’ll have less chores! We call that a win-win situation.

Simple Laundry Hints

When life gives you laundry, we give you helpful laundry hints!

Often we meet people who don’t have the right washer and dryer for their needs. What they have is either broken, dysfunctional or old. That’s when we recommend a new washer and dryer pair, like our favorite Electrolux model.

Other times we meet someone with the right appliances, but who has questions about which laundry products to use.

We can help with that too!

Below is a useful guide we hope boosts your laundry skills to the next level.

Liquid detergent: Pre-measure the correct amount before using. It’s most effective when treating grease or oil stains.

Laundry pacs: With these, just toss one in the machine and go. They contain pre-measured detergent in a convenient little package. Laundry pacs are powerful cleaners and easy to use.

Powdered detergent: Similar to liquid detergent, you must measure the correct amount before using. It’s best for treating ground-in dirt, but make sure to add it to the washing machine before starting a load of clothes.

There’s no need to fret over doing the laundry. When you have the proper tools and knowledge, your laundry will come out great every time!

How To Solve Your 3 Biggest Laundry Storage Problems

Nobody likes doing the laundry.

The machines may do the washing and drying, but you have to lug everything around, fold it and put it away.

And if you have a small laundry room (or a laundry closet), then you know the pain of finding room for your laundry accessories. Fortunately, we have a few innovative solutions to help!

  1. A Rolling Cart
If you have a small or awkwardly-shaped space, a rolling cart is a flexible option which holds a lot of stuff. You can easily store stain removers, dryer sheets and other laundry accessories.

  1. Storage Baskets
How would you like to have a designated place for all those left behind socks, rather than just laying them across your dresser? Baskets are a fun, convenient way to add storage and a decorative flair to your laundry room. Personalize these inexpensive baskets with labels so everyone in the family knows what goes where.

  1. A Place To Fold
Let’s be honest. How many times have you taken clean clothes from the dryer and piled them on the bed (or worse, the living room floor) because those are the only places with enough room to fold? Install a slim shelf on top of your washer and dryer to create more folding space. Just make sure you can still reach the appliance controls.

And just like that, you have storage! Doing the laundry may not be your favorite chore, but it can be more functional and organized. We hope these ideas solve your storage problems and make your chores a little easier.

How To Make Laundry Day Easier

Do you have the laundry blues?

Heavy coats, thick sweaters, flannel blankets, fuzzy towels — these items test your washing machine and stress you out. Especially when you pull them out of the washing machine and they don’t look, smell or feel clean.

It feels like there’s a rain cloud hanging over your head every time you do the laundry.

But there is a ray of sunshine poking through that cloud.

Maytag washing machines are strong enough to handle your toughest laundry days — even up to 18 towels in a single load. They’re also energy efficient, saving you money and helping the environment.

These washing machines have several great features, including a PowerWash cycle and agitator, and an auto sensing option.

If you’re up to your ears in heavy winter clothes, a Maytag washing machine is the best partner you can have.

Don’t spend another minute worrying if your washing machine is tough enough to handle heavy loads. Let your appliances work for you and give you the peace of mind you deserve.

The Best Washing Machine For Your Towels

Summer is a time for rest.

Isn’t it?

You thought foot traffic through your house would slow down once the holidays ended. But summer guests arrived in droves. Your kids have a sleepover almost every weekend, and your relatives visit as part of their vacation plans.

Luckily, the house is clean and you have plenty of food, rooms and guest towels.

The hard part is keeping your guest towels clean.

It feels like your washer and dryer are running constantly because you’re constrained by how many towels you can fit in one load.

What if we said it didn’t have to be that way?

With a Maytag top load washing machine, you can wash up to 18 towels in one load! This washer has a 4.7 cubic foot capacity and can handle whatever you throw at it...or in it.

Have a lot of guests visiting? With a new Maytag washer in your laundry room, you’ll never run out of clean towels again.

Fight Stains The Easy Way

If there’s a perfect world where no one spills, drips or drops anything on their clothes, we haven’t found it. In the real world, stains happen. But all is not lost. Help is on the way! These simple tricks will rescue your clothes from three common stains.

Wine
Who doesn’t love a glass of their favorite robust red wine with dinner? But in a moment, a mellow glass of red can turn your go-to outfit into a stained mess. Fortunately, a red wine stain is easier to fix than you’d think. Soak the garment in cool water, pretreat with stain remover and then wash with fabric-safe bleach.

Ketchup
Whether it’s for a business lunch or an outing with friends, sometimes nothing fits the bill better than a burger and fries. However, you may be the unlucky patron who gets a burger slathered in ketchup. One big bite later, ketchup squirts out and onto your new button down shirt. When you get home, you can still save your clothes. Soak in cold water, and wash as recommended by the label.

Mud
You love when your kids play outside, but don’t love it when they return with their clothes covered in mud. What once seemed like a lost cause is now easy to fix. Sponge off the dried part with cold water, and then wash in the hottest water shown on the label.

Tough stains? Ha! No stain is too tough for you to handle.

Win the Fight Against Chocolate Stains

how to remove chocolate stains
After Halloween, your kids happily bring home buckets and pillowcases full of candy, most of which are blanketed in a thick chocolate coating. You’ve done your post-Halloween due diligence and checked their candy hauls for anything suspicious, and found a way to distribute their chocolaty treats throughout the upcoming months so they don’t eat it all in one night.

One thing you didn’t plan for were the chocolate stains, and not just what gets on their hands and face. All those new clothes you bought for their back to school wardrobe? Some of them are already dirty, stained with chocolate from Halloween night.

Is it possible to clean these clothes and save yourself money and heartache? Fortunately, with a few simple steps you can remove chocolate stains from washable fabrics.

  1. Scrape off excess chocolate, but do so carefully. You don’t want to rub chocolate deeper in the fibers of the clothes.
  2. Flush the back of the stained clothing with cold water or soda water. This loosens the chocolate particles.
  3. Rub laundry detergent or liquid dishwashing detergent into the stain, so it saturates the fabric.
  4. Soak the clothes in cold water for 15 minutes, gently rubbing the stain every 3-5 minutes. Continue doing this and rinsing the garment until the stain is gone. You may need to apply more detergent for a stubborn stain.
  5. If the stain remains, use a commercial stain remover.
  6. Wash as usual in the washing machine, and the stain should be gone. If not, repeat steps 2-5. Check to see if the stain is gone before drying or ironing.

You need no longer fear the dreaded chocolate stain. It can easily be removed in a few simple steps, returning clothes to their former glory.

How to Clean Caramel From Your Clothes

how to remove caramel from clothes
Halloween is a little over a month away. There are candy displays in every corner of the grocery store, and all the local harvest festivals are starting in just a few days.

There’s going to be sugar everywhere: bags of chocolates, popcorn balls, candy apples and candy corn. Little hands and faces will be covered in ooey, gooey sugar, and that can mean only one thing. More dirty clothes and stains to clean.

Everyone loves caramel. It makes a good dip and coating for apples. But one false move and you could be wearing your favorite treat. Fortunately, Speed Queen knows how to remove caramel from clothes so you can enjoy this sticky treat in peace.

  1. Remove any extra caramel with a spoon or dull knife.
  2. Run cold water over the stain on the opposite side of the fabric to force the caramel out.
  3. Pre-treat the stain.
  4. Wash in hot water.
  5. Check the stain before drying.

Sound simple? It is! This fall, your family can enjoy caramel candy in all its forms without ruining your clothes.

How to Manage Back to School Laundry

The school year is almost here. Can you sense it? Back to school sales, new clothes and new
back to school laundry
schedules.

You even have kids who are excited to return to school! They want to see their friends, play their favorite sports and try out for the school play. Homework? Not so much, but it comes with the territory.

Because your kids are excited for school, they love to shop for new clothes. The back to school sales make this an easy endeavor, but the real problem is when you get the clothes home...and every day afterward.

Speed QueenYour washer and dryer are worn out after years of cleaning clothes, towels, blankets, bed sheets and sports uniforms. Things aren’t washing up as well as they used to, and the dryer is leaving damp spots. Your laundry room needs a new hero.

Speed Queen makes fabulous washers and dryers. A Speed Queen washing machine has a stainless steel tub that doesn’t corrode, chip or crack and has a digital display to easily see how much time is left in the cycle. You’ll get years of use from a Speed Queen washer and dryer.

You also get all the temperatures you need for every type of washing and drying: hot, for whites and heavily soiled clothes; warm, for rayon, jeans and knits; and cold, for delicates or bright colors.

Intrigued yet? Say goodbye to your old washer and dryer. School is almost back in session, and you need the quality and performance only a Speed Queen provides.

Save a Bundle This Summer

laundry savings
Summer may be known as a time for relaxation, but it’s also when laundry piles up. Your kids are playing with friends in the park (on the grass and in the sandbox), there are extra dirty clothes after returning from vacation and you’re doing laundry for the occasional summer guest.

All this extra laundry could make your head spin faster than the end of a wash cycle. When you’re busy with the kids and family, you don’t want to give doing the laundry a second thought. You have plenty on your plate—washing and drying clothes shouldn’t be one of them.

It’s summer and we believe you should wash your way. But it’s not only how you wash and dry, but what you clean your clothes in.

We have the ideal solution because West Coast Appliance and Furniture is letting you choose your summer laundry bundle. You will get a $150 rebate by choosing whichever option you like. Front load or top load—the choice is yours.

We want you to wash your way this summer. Because when you do, you have more time for summer fun: days at the lake, hiking, biking or watching the latest summer flicks at the theater. Don’t waste your days fighting a losing battle with a mediocre washer and dryer. Find a pair which suits your needs and don’t give it a second thought.

How to Save Money in May

May is Maytag Month

There are many special days in May, such as Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. But did you know there’s another celebration which lasts the entire month? That’s right -- May is Maytag Month!

If you want to upgrade your appliances, now is the time to do it. Not June, July or September. Upgrade in May. This is the month where you can get up to $700 by mail when you buy select Maytag appliances.

Do you know what an oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and washer have in common? They are all part of this great deal!

Working in your kitchen or laundry room shouldn’t cause feelings of dread. These are vital parts of the home and deserve the best so they can deliver the best results. When you have quality appliances, your life will be easier.

Your spouse might do the laundry if the washer could handle an extra large load of clothes. You wouldn’t fret over knives with caked-on peanut butter if the dishwasher could clean them with ease. You would host more dinner parties if you could sear a steak in 45 seconds.

Shall we go on?

None of these scenarios are out of reach. In fact, any one of those situations (or all of them!) could be your reality by the end of the month.

You needn’t waste another second on mediocre appliances. Maytag Month solves all your appliance needs. Enjoy the luxury of new appliances and save money. A win-win.

Is Your Kitchen Artisanal, Minimal or Tech-Savvy?

Kitchen styles

Trends come and go. Some of us were around both times leggings were in fashion. And who doesn’t remember when every dish had bacon in it? Although it seems like that trend is still going on.

Kitchens also experience the ebb and flow of what’s trendy. Three kitchen trends have emerged in recent years: artisanal, minimal and tech-savvy. These styles developed as people’s tastes evolved. Each trend has its unique qualities. Do you know which one you like best?

Artisanal kitchens are all about the atmosphere. Warm finishes and traditional touches give off the classic vibe of the kitchens of yesteryear. An artisanal kitchen is handcrafted and heartwarming. It hearkens back to the warmth of our grandmother’s kitchen. The decor, cabinetry and appliances have an authentic look and appeal to our emotions. In these kitchens, you don’t just make meals; you make memories.

On the flip side, there’s the minimalist kitchen for those who prefer a sleek and clean look. This style has been unfolding for years. The overall design is contemporary, and minimalist kitchens use a lot of glass in their designs. One new innovation popular in many minimalist kitchens are appliances which disappear into the cabinetry.

Other kitchens mesh style with the latest technologies. Technology continually impacts kitchen design by making products easier to use. Appliances are faster and last longer. User interfaces blend current technology with kitchen gadgetry. What materializes from the mashup of home appliances and technology is a kitchen with an eye to the future.

Do you know which style suits you best? Maybe you like a little from each trend. The best part is you can create whatever kitchen your heart desires. Start with an artisanal vibe, sprinkle in a few minimalist glass accents and top it off with the latest technology. The final product will be the kitchen of your dreams.

The Right Way to Wash Wool

how to wash wool

Spring is on the horizon. You can almost taste it through the recent rain and windy weather. The scales are beginning to tip and the upcoming forecast shows more sun than rain clouds.

Now is the time to use the remaining cold, rainy days to properly clean and store your winter clothes. For most of us, our wardrobe is cotton or polyester based. Wool is an underutilized winter fabric. Wool blankets are perfect for snuggling up by the fire and wool sweaters are a staple at the ski lodge. But when spring rolls around, wool is the last thing on your mind.

It’s time to pack up and store your winter clothes. Before doing so, you need to wash everything so it stays fresh during the off season. How do you go about washing a unique fabric such as wool?

Our Speed Queen laundry tip says it all. To refresh wool and retain the integrity of the fabric, put washable wool in a mesh bag on a gentle cycle. Lay flat to dry. And, you’re done! It really is that simple.

Where you wash your clothes is just as important as how you wash them. A Speed Queen washer is built to last longer and clean better. It spins each load as it drains, so no dirt is left behind on your laundry. Fresh and clean every time; Speed Queen has you covered.

It’s time to embrace spring! Wash your wool and store it. Warmer weather is on the way.
