How To Remove Grass Stains

It’s an all too familiar scenario, and grass stains are so hard to remove. But what exactly makes these stains so stubborn?

Grass stains are comprised of different proteins, but they’re made mostly of chlorophyll from the plant. The chlorophyll is a dye stain, and some think dye stains are the toughest to remove. But not impossible.

If the stained fabric is machine washable, try these steps:

●       Pre-treat the stain with your preferred liquid laundry detergent

●       Rinse the clothing completely

●       Soak in warm water and a capful of all-fabric bleach (not chlorine bleach!)

●       Let this soak for an hour

●       Rinse the clothing completely again

●       Repeat until no stain remains

Grass stains are annoying, but possible to remove. But when the grass stain fades, your regular clothes still need attention. Wine

Who doesn’t love a glass of their favorite robust red wine with dinner? But in a moment, a mellow glass of red can turn your go-to outfit into a stained mess. Fortunately, a red wine stain is easier to fix than you’d think. Soak the garment in cool water, pretreat with stain remover and then wash with fabric-safe bleach.

Ketchup

Whether it’s for a business lunch or an outing with friends, sometimes nothing fits the bill better than a burger and fries. However, you may be the unlucky patron who gets a burger slathered in ketchup. One big bite later, ketchup squirts out and onto your new button down shirt. When you get home, you can still save your clothes. Soak in cold water, and wash as recommended by the label.

Mud

You love when your kids play outside, but don’t love it when they return with their clothes covered in mud. What once seemed like a lost cause is now easy to fix. Sponge off the dried part with cold water, and then wash in the hottest water shown on the label.

Win the Fight Against Chocolate Stains

After Halloween, your kids happily bring home buckets and pillowcases full of candy, most of which are blanketed in a thick chocolate coating. You’ve done your post-Halloween due diligence and checked their candy hauls for anything suspicious, and found a way to distribute their chocolaty treats throughout the upcoming months so they don’t eat it all in one night.

One thing you didn’t plan for were the chocolate stains, and not just what gets on their hands and face. All those new clothes you bought for their back to school wardrobe? Some of them are already dirty, stained with chocolate from Halloween night.

Is it possible to clean these clothes and save yourself money and heartache? Fortunately, with a few simple steps you can remove chocolate stains from washable fabrics.

1. Scrape off excess chocolate, but do so carefully. You don’t want to rub chocolate deeper in the fibers of the clothes.
2. Flush the back of the stained clothing with cold water or soda water. This loosens the chocolate particles.
3. Rub laundry detergent or liquid dishwashing detergent into the stain, so it saturates the fabric.
4. Soak the clothes in cold water for 15 minutes, gently rubbing the stain every 3-5 minutes. Continue doing this and rinsing the garment until the stain is gone. You may need to apply more detergent for a stubborn stain.
5. If the stain remains, use a commercial stain remover.
6. Wash as usual in the washing machine, and the stain should be gone. If not, repeat steps 2-5. Check to see if the stain is gone before drying or ironing.

You need no longer fear the dreaded chocolate stain. It can easily be removed in a few simple steps, returning clothes to their former glory.

How to Clean Caramel From Your Clothes

Halloween is a little over a month away. There are candy displays in every corner of the grocery store, and all the local harvest festivals are starting in just a few days.
