4 Pots And Pans For Your Kitchen

There are numerous pots and pans on the market. And if you watch a lot of cooking shows, it seems like you need an entire department store’s worth of cookware to create a delicious meal.

Well, we don’t think you need tons of pots and pans cluttering up your cabinets. With just these four kitchen staples, you can make anything!

Stockpot
You’ll use this for steaming, simmering, boiling and blanching a variety of pasta, vegetable and soup dishes. Look for a hefty stockpot with a lid and two handles, and at least an 8-quart capacity.

Saucepan
The ultimate multitasker! You can use this for cooking soup, rice, noodles and much more. A quality saucepan will have a handle with a strong connection to the pan and a lid that fits snuggly. A two-quart saucepan is your best bet to use for a variety of recipes.

Sauté pan/skillet
A must-have for searing, frying and sautéing things like meat, veggies, sauces and one-dish dinners. You’ll want a pan with a thick construction to avoid hot spots. The most common size is a 10-inch pan, and you could go with a non-stick finish. Also, the entire thing should be oven-proof in case you need to broil a dish.

Rimmed baking sheet
These aren’t just for baking cookies; a rimmed baking sheet is also used to roast and cook vegetables, fries and freezer-friendly meals. You’ll want a heavy baking sheet to get an even distribution of heat.

Now that you have the basics, you’re ready to be a kitchen master!

More Freezer Space For The Holidays

If there were ever a season synonymous with cooking and baking, it’s fall. And we’re smack dab in the middle of it.

Halloween is over and Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. That means the amount of food you’re cooking will increase exponentially over the next two months.

You have it all planned out. You’re baking cookies for holiday cookie exchanges, school Christmas parties and bringing a few plates of goodies when you visit the in-laws. You also plan on cooking up a storm for your own festivities. You have tried-and-true recipes on your list, as well as a few new ones to test.

But where will you keep all this food?

The freezer attached to your fridge only holds so much.

You need a second freezer, but you don’t have a ton of money to spend or space to spare.

Fortunately, we have a solution. The Hotpoint 5.1 cubic foot chest freezer features a removable basket, easy access defrost drain and power indicator light. It’s just enough space to house extra cookies, cakes, pies and casseroles.

With a little additional freezer space, you can cook, bake and whip up delicious foods all holiday season long!

Simple Fixes For Common Dinner Mistakes

Did you accidentally spill too much salt in your sauce? Or overcook a steak?

Don’t despair and call for pizza just yet. You can save it!

With a few simple fixes, you can turn a kitchen failure into a culinary success.

Too Much Salt
Cooking is all about balance, which is key if you accidentally over-salt something. If you’re serving the meal with a starch, such as rice or pasta, that can absorb some of the extra salt. If you add too much salt to soup, then double the recipe and leave out the extra salt. You can always freeze the leftovers.

Overcooked Meat
Timing is important when cooking meat. If your recipe calls for a 30-minute cook time, watch the meat carefully because it could cook through much sooner. A meat thermometer helps with this. If your meat does overcook, shred the meat and use it in a pot pie or pasta sauce.

A Thin Sauce
Cornstarch can thicken and save a thin sauce. Create a cornstarch slurry by mixing equal parts cold water and cornstarch into the sauce. Cook 2-5 minutes until the sauce reaches your desired thickness. This also works with curries and soups.

Don’t let these mistakes ruin your dinner. With a few handy maneuvers, you’ll save dinner and no one will be the wiser!
