4th Of July Celebrations

The 4th of July is days away, and many people are making plans about how to spend the day and weekend.

While we may be experiencing a “new normal,” there are plenty of ways to safely celebrate our nation’s Independence Day.

1)     Gather your household for an epic BBQ! Burgers, hot dogs, veggies or fish — if you can throw it on the grill, then do it. Try out new recipes or whip up a bunch of family favorites. Then watch the sun sink down and enjoy family time under the stars.

2)     Go camping. The great outdoors are still out there, waiting to be explored. Whether you and your spouse slip away for a quiet camping trip, or you bring the whole brood, escape the daily grind and enjoy the peaceful sounds of nature.

4th of July Fireworks

Happy 4th of July!

We hope you, your family and friends have a fun and safe celebration today. For many of us, the 4th of July includes watching an amazing fireworks display.

But do you know why we watch fireworks on the 4th of July?

On July 3, 1776, John Adams wrote to his wife and said the signing of the Declaration of Independence should be a “great anniversary festival...solemnized with Pomp and Parade...Bonfires and Illuminations…”

One year later, Congress announced the tradition, and a grand showcase of fireworks was held in Philadelphia. In the following years, the tradition of fireworks displays spread to other cities.

The 4th of July is a historical date in America’s history. Have a wonderful celebration, and remember the origin of 4th of July fireworks as you watch those beautiful displays.
