How To Clean Your Mattress

When’s the last time you cleaned your mattress?

...That’s what we thought.

We don’t usually give our mattresses much thought, but they get dirty like anything else. You could spill a drink, sweat through your sheets or the dog could have an accident. But these things don’t have to ruin your mattress!

When accidents occur, here are a few cleaning tips.

Keep It Covered
A high quality mattress cover is your first line of defense against accidents. Mattress protectors create a barrier that protects your mattress from spills, stains and other problems.

Vacuum Your Mattress
Dirt and dust are inevitable, and will gather on your bed over time. Using a handheld vacuum or attachment is an easy way to clean your mattress. It’s worthwhile to vacuum your mattress every three or four months.

First, remove the sheets and mattress protector. Run the vacuum across the entire mattress. Apply enough pressure to suck up dirt and dust that may be hiding in the crevices of your mattress.

Remove Moisture With Baking Soda
If you have any moisture on your mattress, you need to soak it up right away.

Sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the mattress. Let it stand for 30-60 minutes and then vacuum it up. If you're soaking up a liquid spill, let the baking soda stand for more than an hour and then vacuum up the rest.

Even your mattress needs TLC sometimes. With a few simple steps, you will rest easy knowing you’re sleeping on a clean mattress.
