How To Grill Indoors With Your Broiler

Oregon is known for its unpredictable weather. A beautiful summer day could start with sunshine and end in rain, which puts a major damper on your barbecue plans. How are you supposed to fire up the grill when it’s pouring rain?

The Broiler Is Your Best Friend

The broiler is the closest thing in your kitchen to a grill. But while a grill heats from the bottom, the broiler uses a heating element that gives off heat from the top down.

But before you heat up the broiler, remember this:

Rack positioning. The higher you place the rack, the faster your food will cook. If you want to sear something quickly, place the rack closer to the heating element.

Use the right level. Broilers have two levels: high and low. The high setting is good for food you want browned, but broil on low for thicker foods you want cooked through.

The right equipment. Do not use materials such as parchment paper near the broiler. Before you broil, make sure your equipment is broiler safe.
