Replace Your Broken Dishwasher

It’s tough when an appliance breaks. Because it always seems to happen when you need it most.

The refrigerator or air conditioner stops working in the middle of summer. Or the washer and dryer give out right before washing a huge load of new towels you just bought.

Maybe you’ve been lucky so far and everything still works. Until that fateful morning when you step into the kitchen to make coffee. And there is water everywhere.

The dishwasher is leaking. Broken. Done.

So it’s time for a new one!

We have many great dishwashers at our store, but GE makes one of the best. This 24” GE dishwasher has 12 place settings, so it washes a lot of dirty dishes. It efficiently cleans and dries dishes because of its increased wash power and advanced performance features.

It's an elegant, simple model that gets the job done. No more scrubbing dishes by hand!

Visit West Coast Appliance and Furniture today and choose from our large selection of high quality dishwashers.

3 Must-Clean Places In Your Kitchen

The West Coast Appliance and Furniture family is committed to keeping our office clean, healthy and safe for our employees and customers. We’re monitoring the COVID-19 situation daily and taking several actions in our store, which you can read on our website.

We know many people are either self-isolating or practicing social distancing to curb the spread of COVID-19. If you find yourself at home with more time on your hands, it’s always a good idea to give your house a thorough cleaning.

There are places where you clean often, but did you know there are 3 places in your kitchen which are rarely cleaned?

The next time you clean your kitchen, don’t forget these germ hot spots!

Sponges
We use them to clean our dishes, but sponges are a source of various contaminants, including things like salmonella. To clean your sponge, put it in the microwave for two minutes and then replace with a new sponge often.

Appliance handles, knobs & switches
Dirty hands easily transfer germs and bacteria to these surfaces. Clean these spots weekly with a disinfecting product, or more often if someone in your house is sick.

Microwave
There’s nothing worse than opening the microwave and seeing food splatter everywhere. Disinfect the interior of your microwave with a multi-surface cleaner once a week.

This is a period of unknowns, but if we act responsibly and safely, we will come through this difficult time together.

7 Steps To Clean Your Refrigerator

You survived Thanksgiving. The relatives are gone, leftovers are frozen and life has returned to normal. Now it’s time to turn your attention to Christmas.

But before you do, we recommend cleaning your refrigerator.

Follow these easy steps, and your fridge will sparkle in no time!

  1. Remove everything from the refrigerator. This includes food, storage containers, shelves and drawers.
  2. Discard anything old or expired. Wash containers that have food stains.
  3. Wash shelves and drawers in warm, soapy water. Set aside to dry.
  4. Using more warm, soapy water or a multi-purpose cleaner, scrub the entire inside of the refrigerator.
  5. Put the shelves and drawers back in their original places.
  6. Return clean containers to the fridge.
  7. Using a long vacuum attachment or a duster, sweep underneath the fridge. Also wipe off the top and exterior.

Easy, right?

Your refrigerator will be put through its paces during the holidays. With a little time and TLC, it will be ready for more work — and look great doing it!

Time Saving Cleaning Tips

You love how everyone rushes to and gathers around the table when dinner is served. The family talks, laughs and bonds during meal time.

But come cleanup time, it’s a ghost town.

If you find yourself the only one cleaning up, follow these helpful, time-saving tips so you can start relaxing faster.

Empty The Dishwasher
Before you start cooking, empty the dishwasher. Why? Because…

Load The Dishwasher
Now you can load as you go! And you have plenty of space in the dishwasher for every bowl, spatula or plate you use.

Clean The Counter
If the kids pile their homework and notebooks on the counter, have them move it elsewhere. A clean counter gives you more space to prep and cook without shoving things aside every two minutes.

Have The Right Tools
Stock up on rags, cleaning solutions and sprays so you have everything you need for clean up.

These easy time-savers mean you’ll spend less time in the kitchen cleaning, and more time relaxing with the family after meal time.

Clean Your Kitchen In 10 Minutes

Do you have time to clean your kitchen?

No?

We beg to differ!

We believe you could have a cleaner kitchen in 10 minutes.

You heard us right. And we’re going to show you how — step by step. So grab those cleaning supplies and let’s go!

  1. Put away containers, utensils and other random clutter.
  2. Unload the dishwasher, then load again with dirty dishes.
  3. Use all-purpose cleaner on every surface and let stand for one minute. Then wipe down everything, especially the counter tops and inside of the sink.
  4. Clean the front of your appliances. Wipe away oil, food splatter, dirt or hand prints from the stove, dishwasher, microwave and fridge.
  5. Take out the trash.
  6. Mop the baseboards and spot clean any dirt or spills on the floor.
  7. Dust or sweep up floor crumbs.
  8. Do a final spot clean for anything you may have missed: stains, edges, dirt or crumbs.

And just like that, your kitchen is clean.

Simple, easy, and in 10 minutes, you can cross this chore off your list. Another pro tip? Enlist the kids to help and have it done in half the time. Then enjoy some summer family fun!

Hidden Dirt In Your Kitchen

You love to clean. Every room in your house sparkles and shines, especially the kitchen.

But we have some bad news.

Unfortunately, dirt and germs hide in the unlikeliest of places in your kitchen.

Since a clean and healthy kitchen is important to you, we’ve compiled a list of three places where dirt and grime may be hiding.

1) Handles, Knobs and Light Switches — Your family touches these surfaces multiple times a day. And there’s no way to know how clean all of those hands are. We recommend cleaning these spots with a disinfecting product every week.

2) Refrigerator Drawers — If you store raw meat in the fridge, keep it in the original container and clean up any spills right away. Also, empty out and wash refrigerator drawers, including produce compartments.

3) Kitchen Sink — Everything goes into the kitchen sink, making it a haven for germs. Each time you scrape food off of plates or toss leftovers into the disposal, it spreads germs. Clean the sink with a disinfecting product once or twice a week for the best results.

Your kitchen is a gathering place for friends and family. Give your kitchen the TLC it deserves so it’s clean and ready for meal prep.

Jump Into Spring With A New Dishwasher

You’re ready.

It’s spring cleaning time.

You swept the patio, washed the floors, cleaned the bathrooms, vacuumed and dusted. Your house looks sparkly and fresh. The last thing on your to-do list is washing the dishes. You load the dishwasher, turn it on and relax on the couch with a glass of wine.

After a well-deserved Netflix binge, you go to the kitchen...and then you feel it.

Water underneath your feet!

Dirty, soapy dishwasher water covers the kitchen floor. Ugh!

A broken dishwasher will not only spoil your day, but your cleaning efforts, too.

Don’t wait for your dishwasher to break down. Pay attention to the warning signs and replace your dishwasher before it causes you all sorts of heartache.

Frigidaire has a modern, sleek dishwasher with an OrbitClean Wash System, which has 4x better wash coverage than other models. Your dishes and utensils will look and feel completely clean with no residue left behind.

Don’t let a broken dishwasher ruin your day or your kitchen. A new dishwasher will give you peace of mind all year long.

How To Clean Your Mattress

When’s the last time you cleaned your mattress?

...That’s what we thought.

We don’t usually give our mattresses much thought, but they get dirty like anything else. You could spill a drink, sweat through your sheets or the dog could have an accident. But these things don’t have to ruin your mattress!

When accidents occur, here are a few cleaning tips.

Keep It Covered
A high quality mattress cover is your first line of defense against accidents. Mattress protectors create a barrier that protects your mattress from spills, stains and other problems.

Vacuum Your Mattress
Dirt and dust are inevitable, and will gather on your bed over time. Using a handheld vacuum or attachment is an easy way to clean your mattress. It’s worthwhile to vacuum your mattress every three or four months.

First, remove the sheets and mattress protector. Run the vacuum across the entire mattress. Apply enough pressure to suck up dirt and dust that may be hiding in the crevices of your mattress.

Remove Moisture With Baking Soda
If you have any moisture on your mattress, you need to soak it up right away.

Sprinkle a layer of baking soda over the mattress. Let it stand for 30-60 minutes and then vacuum it up. If you're soaking up a liquid spill, let the baking soda stand for more than an hour and then vacuum up the rest.

Even your mattress needs TLC sometimes. With a few simple steps, you will rest easy knowing you’re sleeping on a clean mattress.

A Worry-Free Dishwasher

Now that Labor Day has passed, a new season begins. The kids are back in school (with more activities than ever!), and the holiday rush is coming. Even though there are a few precious weeks of summer left, you’re thinking ahead.

You can picture it: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. With those holidays come parties, guests, dinners and dishes.

So many dishes.

If your dishwasher is struggling to clean the few summer dishes you have now, how will it ever hold up to holiday festivities?

A Whirlpool dishwasher is a hardworking, reliable appliance. It gets the job done and dishes are beautifully clean every time.

The AccuSense soil sensor senses how dirty the dishes are and changes the cycle for customized cleaning. And if your current dishwasher is loud, the Whirlpool cleans quietly at 55dBA. You can watch a movie or have a peaceful after-dinner conversation, even as the dishwasher runs.

The best news?

No more fights over loading the dishwasher! The Whirlpool dishwasher holds 14 place settings, and has additional space in the lower rack with the AnyWare Plus silverware basket.

The holidays are coming. That means more dishes to wash. Prepare now with a dishwasher that will leave your dishes sparkly and clean.

New Furniture for Spring

Spring cleaningIt may have been a mild winter, but we are already thinking ahead to spring. Sunshine, flowers, and of course, spring cleaning.

If you bust out the mop, vacuum, duster and latex gloves at the earliest sign of spring, then you are a true spring cleaning fanatic. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

But, if you’re spending the time to thoroughly clean your house — and everything in it — you don’t want to clean old, broken-down stuff.

How many times have you passed by your crooked kitchen table? Every few weeks you slip a piece of folded paper underneath the wobbly leg. Unfortunately, dust gathers around it, and your adorable dog pulls the paper out and uses it as a toy. Our dining room sets span different colors and designs, and we know you’ll find the perfect fit for your house.

As time passes, your design tastes change. And so do the likes and dislikes of your children. Your child will develop their own style, and want their bedroom furniture to reflect their personality. Or if you have a teenager under your roof, you may need to invest in a new mirror or bookshelves.

Spring is on the horizon, and it’s not just a time for cleaning. Take advantage of the spring cleaning buzz and refresh your home’s signature furniture pieces. This year, embrace spring and buy something fresh and new. You’ll be happy you did!

How To Clean a Delicate Tablecloth

During the holidays, you like to use and display family heirlooms. You adorned the table with your
How To Clean a Delicate Tablecloth
favorite silver and tablecloth. These precious heirlooms are beloved and you enjoy the opportunity to showcase them.

But now that the holidays are over, it’s time to carefully polish the silver, clean the tablecloth and store them until next year.

Unfortunately, you’re always wary of cleaning your tablecloth. The delicate, aged fabric makes it a tenuous task every year. But you needn’t worry now. A few simple steps ensure your beloved tablecloth stays clean without harming its integrity.

  1. Wash it in a mesh bag on a gentle cycle.
  2. Air dry the tablecloth by hanging it on a padded hanger, or laying flat.
  3. When ironing, use a press cloth between the iron and fabric.

These steps are easy as 1-2-3! And you’ll have peace of mind knowing your cherished, generations-old tablecloth is renewed and intact before you store it with your other family heirlooms.

How to Clean Stubborn Stains

Clean kitchen

When you’re a kid, summer was the time to relax. No school, no homework and no worries. Your life was totally carefree for three glorious months.

As an adult...not so much.

You work, run errands, the kids are home from school and there are birthday parties, barbecues, slumber parties and graduations. You cook up a storm during the summer for friends and family. You love the hustle and bustle, but your kitchen and cookware suffers from a lot of use and a little neglect.

Sometimes hours pass before you realize there’s an awful stain on your counter tops, pans or other surfaces. By the time you see it, the stain is hard and grimy. To clean anything that’s caked on, try a few simple tricks.

1.    Cover the stain with soapy water and walk away. Play with your kids. Walk the dog. Watch an episode of your favorite show on Netflix. Then come back. Sometimes letting warm water sit on the stain can loosen it enough to clean it off of whatever surface it’s stuck on. You can also repeat this multiple times as needed.
2.    Depending on the surface, try spreading a small amount of abrasive cleaner over the stain. Let it stand and then scrub.
3.    If you have a particularly greasy stain, use a cloth dipped in white vinegar. Clean the surface and then wipe with another cloth soaked in warm, soapy water.

You needn’t let a lack of time or stubborn stains ruin your summer. When you’re busy, these simple cleaning hacks can save you time and give you peace of mind. With a little ingenuity and elbow grease, your kitchen will absolutely sparkle all year long.
